Eugene F. "Gene" Sterner, 60, of Exeter Township, passed away on Sunday, March 26, 2023, in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of Christine (Hoover) Sterner. Born in Reading Pennsylvania, he was the son of the late John and Shirley (Weitzel) Sterner. Gene was a graduate of Twin Valley High School and was previously a member of the Germania Soccer Club. Gene was the owner/operator of Sterner Lawn and Landscape in which he ran with his son, Kyle.
In addition to his wife, Gene is survived by his children Kelli Dietrich, wife of Mike, of Wyomissing, Katie Troxel, wife of Shawn, of Exeter, and his son Kyle, husband of Jenna, of Exeter. He is also survived by his stepchildren Britney Medoro, wife of Albert, of Exeter and Trey Kelly also of Exeter. All 9 of his beloved grandchildren; Cole, Albert, Adalynn, Wyatt, Cameron, Peyton, Miles, Lyla, and Asher. Lastly, his siblings, Catherine Petrillo, widowed to Pete, of Reading, PA, John Sterner, husband to Diana, of Jacksonville, FL, Mike Sterner, husband to Jennifer, of Mohnton, Anita Smith, widowed to Russell, of Oley., and many nieces and nephews. Gene is predeceased by stepdaughter Cortney Kelly.
Gene was the kindest, most giving, and loving father, son, brother, uncle, grandfather, and friend. He always put others first and was the “super-hero” figure to family and friends. His presence and impact he made in everyone’s lives will forever be missed.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, March 31, 2023 from 9:00 am to 12:00 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue Reading, PA 19606. Interment will be private at the convenience of the family. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St Jude Children's Research Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
