Robert "Bob" Magee, a proud veteran, dedicated corporate executive, and cherished family patriarch, passed away peacefully on May 22, 2026. Born in Philadelphia on August 22, 1931, to the late Robert G. and Anne M. Magee, his family relocated to Reading, Pennsylvania, in the early 1930s.
Bob grew up in Reading, attending St. Catherine's Elementary and Central Catholic High School. He pursued higher education at the prestigious Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania, graduating in 1953.
A dedicated patriot, Bob enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in 1951 serving on active duty from 1953 to 1955. He continued his service in the USMC Reserves until honorably resigning with the rank of Captain on December 15, 1960.
Following his military release in 1955, Bob embarked on a distinguished 37-year executive career with Carpenter Technology Corporation. He spent his first two years at the Reading Plant in Industrial Engineering before transferring to the Carpenter Steel New England Division in Bridgeport, Connecticut. There, he spent 17 years serving as the Director of Industrial Relations.
Throughout his time in Bridgeport, Connecticut, Bob was an energetic and deeply respected civic leader. His professional contributions included serving for four years as the President of the Labor Relations Association for 45 steel companies across the United States and Canada. He dedicated two years as the President of the United Way of Eastern Fairfield County. In 1969, he was honored to serve as the Ringmaster for the historic Barnum Festival.
In 1975, Bob returned to Reading, Pennsylvania, where he spent another 17 years serving as the Corporate Director of Employee Relations until his well-earned retirement in 1992.
Above all his achievements, his family was his greatest pride. Bob was blessed with two meaningful chapters of marriage in his life; he wed Josephine Jablonski in 1953, with whom he shared twenty-two years. In 1975, he married Marilyn Burns, with whom he shared fifty beautiful years of deep companionship, love, and devotion until Marilyn's passing in 2025.
His legacy of love, hard work, and integrity lives on through his six children: Michael (Marian) Magee, James (Catherine) Magee, Brian (Judy) Magee, John (Carol) Magee, Patricia (Robert) Foster, and Stacey (Christopher) Santoro. He is also survived by 13 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren, all of whom brought immense joy to his life.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606, followed by a service beginning at 11:30 am at Gethsemane Mausoleum Chapel, 3139 Kutztown Road, Reading, PA 19605.
