Richard L. Strause

Richard L. Strause, 97, of Mount Penn, passed away on Saturday, March 2, 2024, in Reading Hospital. He was the husband of the late Thirza L. (Roadarmel) Strause, with whom he celebrated 73 years of marriage. Born in Shillington, PA, he was the son of the late Elmer S. and Mabel V. (Gaul) Strause. After graduating highschool, Richard served his country in the United States Army during World War II. He later furthered his education at Albright College, where he earned his Bachelor's Degree in Economics in 1951. He worked as an insurance agent for Prudential in the Reiffton branch for 28 years until his retirement in 1985. Richard was a member of Pennside Presbyterian Church, where he served as an elder, and was also the financial secretary for 11 years.

Richard is survived by his children Paul R. Strause, husband of Sherrie, Robert L. Strause, husband of Bitsy, Gail L. Deckman, wife of Bruce, and Janet A. Weidner, wife of Ricky, sixteen grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday, March 11, 2024 from 10:00 am until 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at Berks County Memorial Gardens, Fleetwood. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Pennside Presbyterian Church, 253 N 25th St, Reading, PA 19606.
