Mary L. (Himmelberger) Downey, 92, formerly of Lower Alsace Twp., passed away on Monday, December 9, 2024 at Fairlane Gardens at Reading. She was the wife of the late Joseph G. Downey. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of the late Robert L. and Ruth M. (Horst) Himmelberger. Mary graduated from Mt. Penn High School, class of 1950. She worked for Reading Musical Foundation as the bookkeeper for 14 years. Mary was a kind woman in good health and had a passion for cats. May she have a nice afterlife.
Mary is survived by her step-son Dewey S. Downey, as well as many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers; Paul, Richard, Carl, and Donald Himmelberger, and her sister Ruth M. (Himmelberger) Lewars.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, December 13, 2024 from 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm with services beginning at 1:00 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at St. Peter's Cemetery, 10th & South Streets, Reading, PA 19602.
