It is with great sadness that the family of Mark Edward Schlott announce his passing on June 21, 2025, at the age of 58.
Mark will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 38 years, Karen (née Marcinkowski); children: Bret Millard (Jessica), Laura Doble (Michael), Anthony, and Ryan; grandchildren: Justin, Evan, and Gabriella; sister, Sue Finch (Dennie); brother, Dennis Schlott (Lisa); as well as numerous relatives and friends.
He was predeceased by his parents Elmer and Marie Schlott.
Born in Reading, PA on January 26, 1967. Mark graduated from Reading High School in 1984 and attended Penn State University Berks Campus. He spent 39 years of his life dedicated to his career at the R.M. Palmer Company. Mark started out at the company in 1986 as a maintenance mechanic at the age of 19 and worked his way up in the company through his dedication, determination, and loyalty. His need to always learn and grow saw him climb the career ladder holding various positions such as production manager, director of production services, plant manager, vice president of operations, chief operating officer, and eventually chief executive officer just to name a few. He was continuously finding ways to better the R.M. Palmer Company. When he would come up with a new product, his eyes would light up when he would tell his family about it. Mark said, "success is the sum of small efforts repeated day in and day out." His dedication to his career was outstanding and commendable.
Mark also served on the NCA (National Confectioners Association) Board of Directors for many years and received the NCA 2019 Advocate of the Year Award. He was also inducted into the Candy Hall of Fame in 2021. In addition to his active involvement in the candy industry, he also was very much involved in his community participating in the Berks County Workforce Development Board, Worker and Training Committee Chairman, Greater Reading Chamber Alliance Board of Directors, Manufacturing Resource Center Board Of Directors, and Berks County United Way Leadership Program.
Even with all his time spent with his career, he loved his family with all his heart. Mark and Karen spent many years as active foster parents, concluding with the adoption of Anthony and Ryan. Mark also treated his stepchildren like they were his own and always spoiled his grandchildren. Family was everything to him.
