With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Gordon Raymond Livengood, 73, of Muhlenberg Township on Friday, July 19, 2013.
Gordon was born October 19, 1939 in Reading, PA, to the late Bertram and Mildred (Rojahn) Livengood. He graduated Reading High School in 1957. Following graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and served from 1957-1961 as a Machinist Mate onboard the USS INTREPID aircraft carrier earning the rank of Petty Officer Second Class. After departing the Navy, he continued to be a machinist most of his life and moved back to Reading, PA, where he lived in Stony Creek until he moved to Corpus Christi, Texas in 1981. There he met the love of his life, Mary Ann and were married Dec 6, 1986. Recently Gordon and Mary Ann returned to Reading to be closer to family and friends.
Everyone that was fortunate enough to be a part of Gordon’s life, knew he ws a true patriot and hero. Gordon was one of the most patriotic American’s this world has ever known. His love for the Navy, was only surpassed by the love he had for his family and friends. In his spare time, he loved his trains, corvettes, playing his drums and repairing old clocks.
Gordon is survived by his wife Mary Ann (Skurka), daughter Sue A. Boyer and husband Steve from Fleetwood, PA, son Lieutenant Commander Scott F. Samo and wife Allison from Patuxent River, MD., grandchildren Tara Korch, Michael Boyer and Jena Boyer, great-grandchildren Katana and Micayla Korch, Ariana and baby to be Boyer and his sister Elizabeth Livengood of West Reading. Gordon was pre-deceased by his son: Gordon Livengood Junior and his three brothers: Bert, Robert and Charles.
Funeral Services will be held in the Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. 2100 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. Friends may call Tuesday Evening at the funeral home from 6:00-8:00 p.m. Interment in Forest Hills Memorial Park.
