Ferne L. Lauter, 88 of Reading passed away March 23th, 2013 in Kindred Care of Wyomissing. She was the wife of the late Albert J. Lauter, Jr. Born in Wyomissing, she was a daughter of DeLeon and Elsie (Fisher) Stuber. Ferne served in the US Marine Corps during WWII. Ferne was a member of St. Catharine’s RCC Church. She was a life member of the the Russel M. Butterweck Detachment Marine Corps League serving as Adjutant-Paymaster, newsletter editor, and chairman of many other committees and programs for over 30 years. She served four years as Adjutant for the Department of Pennsylvania Marine Corp League and on the national level as chairman of the National Resolutions Committee for six years. She was a member of the Military Order of Devil Dogs, and became Pennsylvania Pack Leader in 1989. In 1992 she was named “Pack Dog of the Year”. Over the years Ferne receive d many Distinguished Service Awards and Commandant Citations for Meritorious Service. In 1981 she received the Four Chaplains Legion of Honor Award. Ferne was also a charter and or life member of Women’s Marines Association, American Legion Post #878 in Oley, the Women’s Veteran’s of Berks County and the Disabled American Veteran’s. Ferne was employed by St. Catharine of Siena Parish retiring after 21 years, working first in the school office and then in the parish office. Ferne is survived by One Son; Michael E., husband of Michele of Centre Park Historic District, one Half Sister: Heidi Thomas of Scottsdale, AZ, One Sister-In-Law; Elaine, widow of Wilbert Lauter, and many Nieces and Nephews. Services from St Catharine of Siena Chapel 2427 Perkiomen Ave. Mt. Penn on Tuesday, April 2, 2013 at 10:00 am. Friends may call from 9:00 am to 10:00 am. Interment in Gethsemane Cemetery.
