Obituary

Jon W. "R.D." Krize, 71, of Birdsboro, passed away at his home on Tuesday, July 21, 2026, with his loving wife by his side. Born in Reading, Jon was the son of Robert D. and Jeannine A. (Aulenbach) Krize. He shared 45 years of marriage with his devoted wife, Eileen M. (Gallagher) Krize. Jon graduated from Muhlenberg High School, Class of 1972, and went on to own his own pet store in West Reading before spending 38 years in the furniture industry.

A lifelong Green Bay Packers fan, he carried his team spirit from childhood into adulthood. He loved trips to the Outer Banks with family for surf fishing. He had a sharp sense of humor with an endless collection of jokes, and a natural gift for storytelling. He could make anyone laugh, and his ability to bring smiles to people around him is something his friends and family will always remember.

Jon also had a deep love of history and family. He spent years researching and documenting the entire family genealogy. He believed family vacations needed a healthy dose of history, which meant "crucial" stops at cemeteries, Civil War prisoner camps, and other historic sites. After all, no child's first trip to Disney World is complete without a little detour to a war encampment cemetery for some grave rubbing.

Jon was a gifted painter and talented woodworker who poured creativity, passion and care into everything he made. He leaves behind beautiful works of art and handcrafted pieces that will be treasured by those who knew and loved him, serving as lasting reminders of his talent and care.

Above all else, Jon's greatest joy was his family. He was the loving father of Trevor Krize, husband of Ashleigh (Ring), of Schuylkill Haven, Pennsylvania, and Amy (Krize) Suveg, wife of Jeffrey of Plymouth, Massachusetts. He took immeasurable pride in his seven grandchildren-Waverly, Wilder, Riley, Caleigh, Makynleigh, Baylor, and Beckett-cherishing every moment spent with them and delighting in their fellow mischievous behavior. He also leaves behind his beloved 21-year-old cockatiel, Toby, who will surely miss their daily tradition of whistling along together to the Andy Griffith theme song.

He was predeceased by his brothers, R. Daniel Krize and Stephen Krize. Jon's quick wit, humor, and unwavering devotion to his family left a lasting legacy. His memory lives on in his family, his creations, and the countless stories and laughter he shared, a testament to a life filled with love, humor, and curiosity. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation with family and friends will be held on Tuesday, July 28, 2026 from 11:00 am to 12:30 pm with services beginning at 12:30 pm at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at St. John's Cemetery, Birdsboro. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to The Parkinson's Foundation, https://www.parkinson.org. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., has been entrusted with arrangements.
