John J. Paris, 95, of Reading, PA, passed away on Wednesday, February 28, 2024 in Reading Hospital. He was lucky to find three loves to share his life with, his wife Elizabeth C. (Souders) Paris, passed away January 14, 1987, and his companions Ethel M. Swope, passed away April 1, 2011, and Mary J. Calcagno, passed away October 16, 2016. Born in Reading, he was the son of the late Alessandro and Angela (Biagi) Paris. John was a graduate of Wilson High School and was a United States Air Force Veteran of the Korean War. He worked at AT&T which then became Lucent Technologies as an analyst for many years until his retirement. John was a member of Christ (Yocum's) Lutheran Church. He also sang with his brother Gene for many years throughout Berks County as the "Paris Brothers" and with the group formally known as "The Sweet Notes", as well as with the Pretzel City Chorus. He was a previous member (60 years) of St. Matthews where he was a choir member, youth leader, adult Sunday School teacher and mens group leader.
John is survived by four generations including two daughters; Cathleen D., wife of Robert Peters, of Exeter Township, and Linda M., wife of Michael Lepera, of Muhlenberg, 6 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, his two sisters Matilda Wright and Joanne widow of Charles Peppers, both of Reading, and many devoted nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his extended family Robert Swope, husband of Kathy, Brian Swope, Diane Carter, and Walter and Leroy Bossler, and their families. John was predeceased by his brothers Albert R. Paris, Gene Paris, and Gerald Paris, and sister Marie L. Madeira.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2024 from 9:30 am to 11:00 am with services beginning at 11:00 am in Lutz Funeral Home Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W. Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606.
