Glenn A. Hoover, 87, of Birdsboro, passed away on Monday, February 2, 2026 at the Reading Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was the husband of Mary Lou (Bieber) Hoover with whom he shared 62 years of marriage. Born in Reading, PA, he was the son of the late Chester L. and Pauline (Bohn) Hoover. Glenn graduated from Reading High School, class of 1958. He was a tool die repairman for Doehler-Jarvis where he was also the Employee Union Representative for UAW Local 1056. Glenn was also employed at Rockwood Spring Water.
Glenn enjoyed racing pigeons and actively competed for 60 years. He was a lifelong member of Reading and Phoenixville Pigeon Clubs and Suburban Combine, serving in various roles including Combine Treasurer for many years. He was a diehard sports fan, especially the Phillies and Eagles. He also loved scholastic sports and enjoyed sitting in the bleachers at local basketball games with his lifelong friend, Ron Tiderman.
Glenn was a deeply dedicated servant and advocate for his community, giving generously of his time, energy, and heart. His commitment to civic engagement was unwavering. He served as Chairman of the Citizen Advisory Committee for the Pioneer Crossing Landfill, where he was recently honored for an impressive 25 years of thoughtful leadership and steadfast service. Glenn also devoted 25 years to Exeter Township as a Judge of Elections, ensuring fairness, integrity, and accessibility in the voting process-roles he carried with great pride and responsibility.
Glenn was humbled to be recognized through the creation of the Glenn Hoover Summer Basketball League, a tribute that celebrated not only his passion for the game but also his enduring impact on young athletes and the broader community. It stood as a testament to the countless lives he touched through encouragement and genuine enthusiasm for seeing others succeed.
In addition to his wife, Mary Lou, Glenn is survived by his children; Christine Sterner, Dave (Julie) Hoover, Sheila (Bill) Parker, and his daughter-in-law Vickie Hoover. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Britney (Albert) Medoro, Trey Kelly, Sara and Kerry Hoover, Drew, Gavin, and Trent Parker, as well as two great-grandchildren, and his siblings; Darlene Woerle, Shirley Darrah, Larrie Hoover, Sylvia Beasley, and many nieces and nephews. Glenn was preceded in death by his son, Glenn E. Hoover, granddaughter Cortney Kelly, son-in-law Gene Sterner, siblings Fern, Doris, Ronald, Pauline, and additional half siblings.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Monday evening, February 9, 2026 from 4:00 pm to 6:00 pm at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. A brief visitation will be offered at 10:00 on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, immediately followed by a celebration of life at 11:00 am at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. Interment will follow at Spies Cemetery, 318 Spies Church Road, Reading, PA 19606.
