Obituary

George "Sandy" Sandell died midday Friday, April 10, 2026 at Reading Hospital surrounded by his close family. He was born in Brooklyn, New York on November 24, 1939 to George and Margaret (Knapp) Sandell. He was an only child spending his childhood in New York, Vermont and eventually in Meriden, Connecticut where he graduated from Meriden High School in 1957 and attending University of Hartford in Hartford, Connecticut.

His career began at New Departure in Bristol, Connecticut and continued his career in Maryland until he began his own company in Pennsylvania in 1970. From his small company to his prized coownership in Dalbrook Inc., he enjoyed many years thriving in electric component sales all over the USA and Germany.

He proudly served his country and raised a small family while always living the good life. From his second home in the Poconos, his time playing hockey, basketball, racquetball, tennis and, of course, golf, Sandy enjoyed the finer things in life, an occasional gin and tonic and the people who surrounded him. He was a huge Philly sports fan and because of his wife, he became a Notre Dame fan later in life.

In 2004, Sandy married Eileen Winterbottom and settled down with his built-in family in Berks County. He enjoyed his later years with family at the beach in Topsail Island, NC, Ft. Myers, Florida and traveling the world with Eileen by his side.

Including his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Janet Decembrino of Reading, his step daughters, Beth Rothermel of Wyomissing and Aubrey Naffis of Frederick, Maryland, his son in laws David Decembrino, Daniel Rothermel and David Naffis. He cherished his grandchildren the most, Allie Klee (Griffin), Ava and Lilly Decembrino, Amelia and Parker Rothermel and Owen Naffis. They will miss their Grampy so much and will share his imaginary ball in the paper bag trick with their children!

Lutz Funeral Home in Reading, PA is in charge of the arrangements.
