John P. Gaffney, 60, of Temple, passed away peacefully at the Penn State Health-Milton S. Hershey Medical Center on September 22, 2020.
He was the beloved husband of Jennifer (Miller) Gaffney for 25 years. Born in Elizabeth, NJ, he was the son of Mary Eileen and the late James F. Gaffney Sr.
A 1978 graduate of Reading Central Catholic and a 1982 graduate of Alvernia College, he was self-employed as a general contractor for many years and a member of Holy Guardian Angels Church.
Known to his friends and family as Jack or “Junn”, he was a colorful, gregarious figure who loved life and lived large. Always “living the dream”, he was forever ready with quick stories that weren’t always so quick, a “chuckle for ya”, a joke or a hug for anyone who needed it. He loved to laugh and was loud as anyone who crossed paths with him can attest to as he “rolled” around Berks County in his vintage collection of trucks and El Caminos. You often heard Jack coming before you saw him.
Jack enjoyed hot rods, especially his 1967 Chevelle, boating, vacations in Maine, telling tales (some tall, some true), history, politics, drinking coffee, sitting and having a conversation about practically anything. He had a story or an opinion on a wide variety of topics. There was nothing, however, that Jack loved more than spending time with his family especially watching the “center of his world”, his daughter Molly, play volleyball, sing or perform.
There are not enough words to express our loss. To say he will be greatly missed is a vast understatement because there is a space he occupied in our family that will never be filled. We will miss Junn forever.
In addition to his wife and daughter at home, he is survived by 3 brothers: James, Reading; Joseph, husband of Jacqueline, Exeter Township; Matthew, husband of Marcella, Muhlenberg Township; his sister Maureen, wife of Barry Vagnoni, Exeter Township; and many nieces and nephews who loved their Uncle Jack.
