Eugene A. Swavely, 98, of Exeter Township, formerly of Mt. Penn, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 31, 2024 at Berkshire Commons. He was the widower of the late Margaret C. "Peggy" (Krick) Swavely, who passed away May 29, 1997. Born in St. Lawrence, he was the son of the late Albert B. and Lillie M. (Gottschall) Swavely. Eugene graduated from Mt. Penn High School, class of 1943 and was a member of Schwarzwald U.C.C. Eugene proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II. In honor of his heroic achievements, Eugene was awarded a Bronze Star. Eugene began working as a deliveryman for St. Lawrence Dairy, which was later purchased by Clover Farms, retiring after 41 1/2 years. He was an avid bowler and golfer through his early 90's, and was an all time #1 fan of the St. Louis Cardinals. Everyone will remember his quick wit and great sense of humor.

Eugene is survived by his nieces and nephews; David Swavely, Barry Swavely, Steve Swavely, Eileen (Boone) Weisser, Marleen (Boone) Wiseman, Bart Swavely, Robin Krick, and Kathi (Krick) Wolfe. He was preceded in death by his son Craig K. Swavely, sister Ethel (Swavely) Boone, brothers Norman M. Swavely, Elmer E. Swavely, nieces Barbara (Swavely) Cregar, Cherry Trumbower, and nephew Ronald Swavely.
Visitation with family and friends will be held on Friday, June 7, 2024 from 12:30 pm to 1:30 pm with services beginning at 1:30 pm in Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading, PA 19606. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W Neversink Road, Reading, PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shippensburg University Foundation; Craig Swavely Memorial Scholarship, 500 Newburg Road, Shippensburg, PA 17257.
