Eleanor Ruth (Stunz) Leinbach Kurtz

Eleanor Ruth (Stunz) Leinbach Kurtz, 94, of Colorado Springs, CO, passed away on Sunday, January 18, 2026 in Colorado Springs, Colorado. She was the wife of the late Paul H. Kurtz. Born in West Reading, PA, Eleanor was the daughter of the late Henry Stunz and Katherine (Suchomelly) Stunz Mellar. She graduated from Mt. Penn High School, class of 1949, and went on to take night classes at Reading Area Community College. Eleanor was employed for nine years with the Exeter Township School District as a cashier, secretary, and teacher aide. She then went on to work for the Labor and Industry Department of Job Services for 5 years, as well as the Department of Public Assistance, from which she retired in 1981 after 10 years of employment. Eleanor was very involved in the community, serving as a Cub Scout Den Mother and an Assistant Girl Scout Leader. She formed the Berks County Strollers hiking club and was also a former member of Blue Mountain Eagle Climbing Club and the Berks Community Hiking Club. Eleanor was a member of Schwarzwald U.C.C. for many years and was most recently a member at Community U.C.C.


Eleanor loved planning and attending family reunions. She also loved the outdoors, including camping, cross-country skiing, kayaking, gardening, bird-watching, and most of all hiking, including parts of the Appalachian Trail. She was very well traveled across the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe.

Eleanor is survived by her son Kevin E. Leinbach (husband of Cherokee), daughter Diane R. Cusimano, stepson Dean Kurtz (husband of Donna), and stepdaughter Diane Kurtz (companion of Janet Powell). She is also survived by her grandchildren Valerie L. Leinbach and Matthew K. Leinbach (husband of Taylor); Christopher A. Cusimano (husband of Chasity); Jayme L. Cusimano; Andrea L. Ottinger (wife of Chris); and Anthony E. Cusimano (husband of Gabriella); as well as great-grandchildren Azariah Cusimano; Camden, Taelynn, and Mackenna Rexach; Jeffrey Leinbach; Lincoln, Elka, and Westley Ottinger; Lorenza and Camilla Cusimano; and step-great-grandchildren Kainalu, Keahi, and Kaena Malta. She even has two step-great-great-grandchildren Makoa and Kawena Carleton. Eleanor is also survived by her brother Keith H. Stunz, nephews Samuel Stunz (husband of Carin) and Scot Stunz (husband of Kayleen), niece Sallie Dougherty, and many great-nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her first husband Edward J. Leinbach, Jr., son Bruce E. Leinbach, grandson Michael K. Leinbach, step-granddaughter Susan Kurtz, and great-grandson Huntley Ottinger.

Visitation with family and friends will be Friday, February 6, 2026, at 11 am with services beginning at 12 noon at Lutz Funeral Home, Inc., 2100 Perkiomen Avenue, Reading PA 19606. Interment will follow at Forest Hills Memorial Park, 390 W. Neversink Road, Reading PA 19606. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Schwarzwald U.C.C., 75 Church Lane Road, Reading PA 19606, or Community U.C.C., 3330 St. Lawrence Avenue, Reading PA 19606, or the Berks Community Strollers, 3804 Hilltop Avenue, Reading PA 19605.
