Susan L. Davis (Grossman)

Susan L. (Grossman) Davis, 76, formerly of Mt. Penn, passed away on Wednesday, October 30, 2019, in Chambersburg Hospital. She was the former wife of Herbert C. Davis for 35 years. Born in Reading, PA, she was the daughter of George and Ann (Abramowitch) Grossman. Susan was a graduate of Mount Penn High School. She was the president of the Reading Chapter of Woman's American O.R.T. (Organization For Rehabilitation through Training) from 1974-1975. She was a past member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the Jewish Community Center and is presently a member of the Sisterhood of Kesher Zion Synagogue. She was also a Brownie Leader and chairman of membership of the Ladies Auxiliary both for the Jewish Community Center. Susan was also a member of the Center Stage Production Group within the Jewish Community Center where she started in the chorus and had the opportunity to perform a solo of "I Am Woman". This experience in turn led to use it as her outlook on life. Mrs. Davis worked as a realtor for Coldwell Banker Real Estate Professionals, now Prudential Landis Home Sales in Wyomissing. She was the former owner of Susan's Korner in Mount Penn from 1983-1995, owner of former Susan's Two on Court Street in Reading from 1983-1987 and owner of the former Satin and Lace Lingerie Shop from 1985-1987. She was the co-owner of Davis Tree Service since 1977, performing estimates, ground work, doing all the accounting, mailings, hiring, firing and taxes. She also worked in her parents yarn shop in Mt. Penn. She designed all her own clothing which were all knitted garments ranging from two piece outfits to evening gowns. Susan is survived by two sons, Jordan D. Max, Oreland, PA and his children Nathan Philip, Jeremy Daniel and Aiden Carl Max and Darren J. Max of Mifflin Park, PA and his children Damon Logan and Simon Alexander Max; three daughters, Hilary J. Max of Dayton, OH, Alyssa J. (Max) Bekowies of Dayton, OH and her children Carly Rachel and Kurt Bekowies and Jessica N. Davis and her children, Brooklyn Alexis Rodriguez and Caden Isaac Davis. A Graveside Service will be held at Kesher-Zion Cemetery 1051 Philadelphia Ave Shillington, PA 19607. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Animal Rescue League, 58 Kennel Road, Birdsboro, PA 19508. Lutz Funeral Home, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
