W.R. “Dick” Bortz, 85, of Wernersville, passed away Thursday, November 21st, 2013 in ManorCare Health Services Sinking Spring. He was the husband of Janet M. (Nelson) Bortz. Born in West Reading, he was a son of the late Walter A. and Alva A. (Berstler) Bortz. Dick was a graduate of Mt. Penn High School and was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean War. He was a member of West Lawn United Methodist Church and was a life member of the Lower Alsace Fire Company, Lower Heidelberg Fire Company, and the Berks County Fireman’s Association. He was the past president of the Altoona Lion’s, Susquehanna Township Lions and the Reading/Pagoda Lions and having 33 years of perfect attendance. He was a master mason of Juniata Lodge #282-Holidaysburg, PA, 32nd degree mason of valley of Altoona A.A.S.R.M. He was also a member of Jaffa and Rajah Temples A.A.O.N.M.S, Pa st president of the Rajah String Band, Board member and Drive Coordinator of Shriner’s Hospital in Philadelphia, Past president of High Twelve, Board member of Miss PA Pageant and a member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.Dick worked for 37 years with Bell Telephone and AT&T. In addition to his wife, Dick is survived by: Two Sons: Richard A. Bortz of Mechanicsburg and Jeffrey N. Bortz of Allentown; One Daughter: Lori Ann Sullivan of Fairless Hills and Seven Grandchildren. He was pre-deceased by a sister: Fern I. Yoder and a brother George Bortz.. Funeral Services will be held on Monday November 25th at 11:00 A.M. at West Lawn United Methodist Church 15 Penn and Woodside Ave. West Lawn, PA 19609. Friends may call from 10:00 am to 11:00. Interment in Good Shepherd Cemetery-Tuckerton.
